Why We Love WDW: Transportation Edition

As you may know, we are a neurodivergent family, and our reasons for loving Walt Disney World are also a bit divergent from the norm. This family loves logistics and transportation. Francis loves that Magic Kingdom is built over Utilidors, a system of tunnels & offices UNDER the park that maintain the immersive atmosphere throughout. Lilly loves trains, and there is a train at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom (not to mention the monorail). I especially love water transportation, and think heaven on earth is the Seven Seas Lagoon at night.

Disney Transportation Official Collector Card for the Magic Kingdom Boat

Did you know you can collect transportation cards around Walt Disney World? Lilly and I have a few of them, but this was news to Francis. Just ask a Transportation cast member if they have any trading cards! We are planning a trip to Disney's Fort Wilderness in the spring -- the first time in a long time that we've done a full week at Walt Disney World rather than several small trips throughout the year -- and today on our family walk, we talked about trying to hit every kind of Disney transportation in one trip. I don't think it's possible, but here is our list so far:

  1. Bus

  2. Monorail

  3. Resort launch (boat)

  4. Friendship Boat

  5. Ferry boat

  6. Pontoon Boat (rent, or book a private fireworks cruise with a driver)

  7. Skyliner

  8. Walt Disney World Railroad (Magic Kingdom)

  9. Wildlife Express (Animal Kingdom)

  10. Bicycle or Surrey Bike (multiple resorts)

  11. Swan Boats (Swan & Dolphin Resort)

  12. Horse (Fort Wilderness)

  13. Wagon/Sleigh (Fort Wilderness)

  14. Canoe/Kayak (Fort Wilderness)

Once, when Lilly was 3, we did a Disney trip where we stayed at the Wyndham in Disney Springs, where they have a Disney character breakfast, and spent a lot of our trip riding the free transportation to various resorts. No park tickets at all, and it was great! People rarely consider Walt Disney World without Park tickets, but let me tell you, you could save THOUSANDS of dollars skipping the Parks while doing character dining at the Resorts. Did I miss any forms of transportation? Let me know in the comments!
